The Honda Accord from the house of Honda is a mid-sized family car marketed globally.
It is the first Japanese vehicle produced in United States.
The first model hit the market in the model year 1971.
It is one of the top selling family cars in United States car market for more than 15 years and it is the most reliable vehicle, trusted by millions of customers.
The Honda Accord won the Best Family Car award in 2006,stated as best import car of the year in 1994, and it won the best car of the year award in 2002 and in 2008.
First Generation (1976-1981)
The Honda Accord introduced in this generation is a 3-door hatchback model, which is slightly larger than Honda Civic. It is the first small car to feature standard amenities like AM/FM radio, tachometer, cloth seats and intermittent wipers. The features like power steering, digital clock and air conditioning are equipped in high performance LX model.
Four door sedan models added to the lineup in 1979 and these are powered by EL1 engine. It is mated to 2-speed automatic transmission. The major competitors to the model include Mitsubishi Galant, Nissan Stanza, Toyota Corolla and Mazda Capella.
Second Generation (1982-1985)
The second generation Honda Accord model is produced in United States. It is one of the best selling brands in US for more than 15 years. Though the model mechanically remains same as that of its previous version, exteriors and interiors are slightly modified. Using the same engine, mileage rates have been increased by 15 percent.
New features equipped in the model for 1982 include chrome accents, shag carpet and velour cabin trim.
Third Generation (1986-1993)
The Honda Accord released in this generation comes with the notable feature, flip-up headlights, which is unusual for sedan models.
It is the first model to feature double wishbones at front and rear ends. Base model have 13 inch wheels, while the other models have 14 inch wheels.
Fourth Generation (1994-1997)
The Honda Accord released in this generation is totally redesigned. Four trim models are offered for 1994, base model LX, EX, DX and EX-R. Power to the model comes from 2.2 liter I-4 version that delivers 145 hp and it can be mated to either 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
Fifth Generation (1997-2002)
The production of wagon models in North America has been discontinued for 1997. The mid-sized four door sedan model, Honda Accord is related to Honda Torneo.
Present Model
The current generation Honda Accord went on sale in 2008 as 2009 vehicle. It is also called as Accord Euro in New Zealand and Australia markets.
The exterior dimensions of the model remain same, while there is refinement in interior design, gaining new features and more powerful engine. It is available in sedan and coupe forms.
